We're a family-owned and operated business and have worked hard to foster exclusive relationships with the top tanneries in Argentina — allowing us to directly source and import the highest quality cowhide rugs from the leading sustainable producers in our space. We source, curate, and handpick our cowhide rugs in order to deliver our customers the highest quality products and most current styles.

We partner exclusively with responsible and ethical tanneries that practice sustainable, eco-friendly processes that don't harm the environment. Our tanneries employ master tanners and use local materials to craft the covetable cowhide rugs we deliver to you. Through our direct relationships with tanneries, we're able to offer premium cowhides without premium prices — passing the savings directly to you.

Our partners have produced sustainable leathers for over 90 years — combining extensive trade experience in their tanning techniques and using sustainable and modern manufacturing processes. Our tanneries utilize leading European machinery and technology to create distinctly soft cowhides that offer a lifetime of joy and durability — all with minimal care.

Our Materials & Methods

Hand Selected For Quality

From the meticulous selection of raw materials, all the way through production, our cowhides are inspected and carefully hand-selected for the best quality, hand-feel, and color. Our tanneries follow the strictest environmental control processes and adhere to firm standards regarding water usage, emissions, energy use, and waste management. All of our cowhides use chromium-free processing to ensure eco-friendly tanning without the use of dyes.

100% Natural & Unique Cowhides

Sustainably Sourced

All of our cowhides are sustainably sourced from the Argentinian meatpacking industry as a by-product of food production. Our partner tanneries rigorously hand-select their hides from cruelty-free abattoirs in northern Argentina. This area is also known for its distinctive and colorful cattle and mineral-rich water — an essential ingredient to produce cowhides with a high-quality finish.

We believe in giving back to nature what it has so freely given us. Through our impact partner, Eden Reforestation Projects, we’re supporting sustainable forest management projects that protect natural ecosystems and provide sustainable livelihoods for local communities in Africa. At Hillyard, a portion of every purchase is donated to Eden Reforestation Projects to plant ten trees.
